YouTube gaming influencers: How to find, vet and work with the right creators

The right YouTube gaming influencer for your game isn't the one with the most subscribers. It's the one whose viewers watch your genre now, in the languages you sell in. Here's how we find them, check them and brief them.

A YouTube gaming influencer is a creator whose channel is mainly about games, and whose videos keep finding viewers in search and recommendations long after upload. The right one for your game is the creator whose viewers watch your genre now, in the markets you sell in. Subscriber count comes last.

If you want names first, see our list of the top YouTube gaming influencers. This guide is about choosing the right ones for your game.

Types of YouTube gaming influencers

Type What they make Best for
Let’s Play and gameplay Long videos of them playing, often a series Showing how the game feels over time
Guides and tips Beginner guides, builds, tier lists Search traffic that lasts for months
Reviews and commentary Opinions, first impressions, news Credibility before a purchase decision
Shorts creators Vertical clips under a minute Reach beyond a creator’s own subscribers
Live on YouTube Streams on YouTube instead of Twitch Launch days and events
Minecraft and Roblox channels Family-friendly play, challenges, builds Younger audiences and sandbox games
Mobile game channels Gameplay, events and codes for mobile titles Installs, often regional

Most strong channels mix two or three of these. A guide channel that also posts Shorts gives you search traffic and reach from the same creator.

Channel size: what each tier is good for

Tier Subscribers Typical job in a campaign
Nano Under 10,000 Tight niche communities, honest first impressions
Micro 10,000 to 100,000 Genre fans who play; good volume for testing angles
Mid 100,000 to 1M The core of most campaigns: reach plus genre fit
Macro 1M and above Reveals, launches and big concepts

Smaller channels punch above their size. In our sponsored YouTube campaigns from 2023 to 2026, videos on channels with 10K to 100K subscribers got views equal to 13.8% of the subscriber count, against 5.4% on channels with 1M+. On dedicated videos, channels under 100K got 267% more comments per view than channels with 1M+ subscribers. Big channels still bring the biggest absolute numbers, which is why the mix matters.

We rarely book only one tier. For Clash for Nature, names like PewDiePie and Jschlatt carried a concept big enough for the largest channels, and the campaign passed 40M+ views on YouTube. For NBA 2K25 MyTEAM Mobile, midsize creators with a real love for NBA 2K did the work, with Jeffrey Bui leading YouTube at 300K views.

How to find YouTube gaming influencers

  1. Start from your players, not from a list. Write down the five games your players also play. The creators who cover those games every week are your shortlist.
  2. Search YouTube like a player. Search for those games plus “guide”, “review” or “worth it”, filter by upload date and note who shows up again and again.
  3. Look at who already covers you. Community Insights shows which creators already make content about your game and your competitors, by platform, region and status.
  4. Go local. If you sell in Brazil, Spain or Southeast Asia, search in those languages. The biggest channels there are often unknown in English-speaking markets.

Vetting checklist

Before you book a YouTuber, check:

  • Recent views, not subscribers. Average views on the last ten long videos, and separately on the last ten Shorts.
  • What they play now. At least a few recent uploads in your genre.
  • Where viewers live. Ask for audience countries and languages from YouTube Analytics.
  • Comments. Real discussion about the game, not only emojis or bots.
  • Past sponsorships. How they disclosed them, and how viewers reacted.
  • Brand safety. Language, topics and anything that clashes with your rating.
  • Made for kids. Channels set as made for kids have limited comments and features, which changes what a campaign can do.

Working with YouTube gaming influencers

Pick the format by beat. Integrated videos before launch for awareness, dedicated videos once players can buy or download. Guild Wars 2 followed exactly that order. Our YouTube page covers each format in depth.

Give them time. A creator has to play, record, edit and upload. The best videos come from creators who had time with the game.

Agree on the long tail. Ask that the video stays up and the tracking link stays in the description. A good guide can bring players for months after the campaign report.

Keep them close. Creators who covered your launch are the first to cover your next update. Over years with Techland, Dying Light 2 came to 105M+ YouTube views across 2,494 creator collaborations on Twitch and YouTube.

Measure what matters

Views show reach. Engagement shows whether people cared. Clicks on tracking links, installs, wishlists and Creator Codes show whether anyone played. Agree on the goal before the first video goes up, and judge every creator against it. Our ROI guide shows how.

Questions we get

What is a YouTube gaming influencer?

A creator whose YouTube channel is mainly about games: gameplay, guides, reviews, commentary, Shorts or live streams. Their viewers come back for the games they play, which is why a video about your game can reach the right players and keep getting found in search.

How do I find YouTube gaming influencers for my game?

Start with the games your players already love. Search YouTube for those games, sort by recent uploads and note who covers them every week. Then check each channel's last ten videos, its audience countries and its comments before you reach out.

Community Insights shows which creators already make content about your game and competing games, so you can start from creators who chose your genre themselves.

Are bigger YouTubers always better?

No. Big channels bring reach for a reveal or a launch. Mid-sized channels in your genre often bring more viewers who actually play, and a broad mix spreads the risk if one video underperforms.

How many YouTubers should a campaign use?

It depends on the goal and the markets. For the mobile launch of My Time at Portia, eight YouTubers delivered over 600,000 views. For Monopoly GO!, 62 creators across Asian markets made regional holiday content. We test with a few creators first and scale what works.
